This Baroque handled vase is one of Ernst August Leuteritz's masterpieces and was designed in 1860. Created in the Rococo Revival period, its style is firmly rooted in the opulence and varied design language of Meissen Baroque. The detailed reliefs and curving acanthus branches plated with 24-carat gold are an unmistakeable expression of this era. These aspects stand in contrast to the delicate artwork: field pansies - the first sign of spring - are painted on the vase in a naturalistic style. Since the mid-19th century, naturalistic flower painting has been perfected at MEISSEN as its own unique genre and has been artfully immortalised on porcelain in ever-changing variations. The field pansies on this vase were created based on flower paintings from a nature study dating back to the beginning of the 20th century - the artistic culmination of impressionist flower painting at MEISSEN.
